The New Forest has large areas of open spaces often with patches of  heather the purple plant in the picture above.  Many of the animals that live in the Forest enjoy eating the flowers and leaves.  There are many wild ponies and donkeys living relatively freely in the forest. They can often be seen browsing by the edge of the road and even walking along or crossing the road. They used to be allowed to roam down the main street of a place called Burley (pictures below the Ringwood ones). But sadly the locals no longer allow these animals access to the street.  Either there were too many fatalities or they got fed up with the animals eating their flowers.  It used to be a fantastic sight to see the ponies and donkeys roaming the streets with the visitors, they are incredibly tame (the animals not the people).

I hope you enjoyed our brief tour of the New Forest, in Hampshire, England (UK).  There is lots more to do and see, we just ran out of time.
